Donnelly agrees to Barrow switch

By BBC Sport
Wednesday, 28th July 2010
Donnelly agrees to Barrow switch.

Barrow have agreed terms with former England Under-19 midfielder Ciaran Donnelly following a successful trial with the club.Donnelly, who has also had spells with Blackburn and Blackpool, had reportedly been attracting interest from several Football League sides.

Barrow boss Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria: "Ciaran has done well for us and will be another good addition.

"He is getting better and stronger with every game."

Blackpool-born Donnelly began his professional career with Blackburn Rovers before joining his hometown club on a free transfer in March 2005.

He made 32 appearances for the Seasiders, scoring twice, before loan spells at Southport and Macclesfield Town.

Moves to Fleetwood Town and Northern Irish side Glenavon followed before returning to England for another spell in non-league football with AFC Blackpool.

He has scored twice during Barrow's pre-season programme including the fourth goal in the 5-0 win over League Two Morecambe.

Barrow have also taken former Bradford City and Luton Town defender Lewis Emmanuel on trial.

The 26-year-old played in the Bluebirds' 2-0 friendly defeat by Blackburn Rovers at Holker Street.

Emmanuel, who has made over 100 appearances in the Championship for both Bradford and Luton, is a free agent after failing to return to Kenilworth Road this summer despite being given the chance to earn a new deal with the club.

He has also been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level.

Barrow are also taking a look at Stockport County goalkeeper Lloyd Rigby and former Grays Athletic midfielder Alsseny Cissoko.

The Bluebirds are yet to sign a goalkeeper following the departures of Stuart Tomlinson and Tim Deasy this summer.

Bayliss said: "We want two keepers in for the start of the season and we know who our number one goalkeeper will be.

"We do want our squad assembled to give us two weeks of work ahead of the new season."
