Barrow boss promises new arrivals

By BBC Sport
Friday, 11th June 2010
Barrow boss promises new arrivals.

Barrow joint-boss Dave Bayliss has reassured fans the club will replace the departed Lee McEvilly next season. The 28-year-old striker is set to agree a deal with League of Ireland club Sligo Rovers after failing to earn a new contract with the Bluebirds.

"Supporters will be delighted at what we'll be bringing in," Bayliss told the North West Evening Mail.

"We wouldn't go short. We've been inundated with calls from other strikers wanting to join Barrow."

McEvilly netted the equaliser in Barrow's FA Trophy triumph against Stevenage Borough at Wembley in May, his first goal in his second spell at Holker Street.

However the Liverpool-born forward failed to prove his fitness to the Bluebirds management team during his three-month stay and Bayliss revealed he wishes McEvilly the best on his move across the Irish Sea.

"Lee has been training with Sligo Rovers and has been offered a contract. They are a professional club and pay good money," Bayliss added.

"We were honest with Macca. He's known for a while that he needs to get fit, and we offered him the chance to come back in pre-season and prove himself.

"We couldn't offer someone a contract on the back of 50 minutes' play at Wembley."

McEvilly, who lists Cambridge United, Rochdale and Wrexham among his former clubs, made eight appearances for Barrow in his second spell, scoring once.
